In accurate English, it is spelt “doughnut”. However, in American popular usage, it is often shortened to “donut”, especially when referring to a toroidal shape and not the pastry.

It’s the ghost that borrowed 12 bucks, broke up with the skeleton, and…something else I can’t remember!

                Oh, the continuity.

                Oops, wrong comment. Whatever.

I think it should just be spelled doughdonuts. Then everyone wins.

No, no. It should be “do(ugh)nut” – THAT is how everyone wins.

Since it’s a zero made of dough, wouldn’t it have been originally spelled ‘Doughnaught’?

      • Erik
        July 5, 2009 at 12:33 am | # | Reply

Nope. It got its name because of the “nut of dough” taken out of the center to help it cook all the way through without burning the edges. Also, I said nut.

just the holes are munchkins, and only from Dunkin’ Donuts..brand thingies.

And its spelled both ways. Both are equally acceptable … yes the American English language is so fucked up lol…we have tons of odd language strangeness.

I can spell doeknut any way I like. As long as people get the point. Remember, language is to EXPRESS IDEAS FREELY AND EFFECTIVELY. Not be forced to learn so many stupid rules that it takes eight years before they teach us anything useful. People who correct spelling all the time have very little comprehension of abstract thought. People who misspell on a computer are pretty damn lazy not to right click on the word and left click on the correct spelling.

Great job yet again, and another lovely secret too.

I really love how Wes and Tony put in small details, like blood slowly increasing frame after frame. Very well drawn as well, I appreciate the style.

The question remains why a ghost eats donuts and drinks beer… where hamlet got his drumstick… and why he believes the ghost is now his father after talking to him before his fathers death.

I always assumed people insisted on the “donut” spelling because that’s the was Homer Simpson spells it, and as we all know, Homer Simpson is one of the top authorities on proper spelling.
